For over 20 years the Caribbean vibes has bless Chicago with it’s traditions of song, food, and dance…the Carnival is held the 3rd Saturday of August on the Midway Plaisance, about a mile from President Barack Obama”s home.
This year festival was nothing short of amazing! thousands of spectators and masqueraders enjoyed soca, reggae, and punta music, along with American and Caribbean cusine cwlebrating the nations of the caribbean.
Belize, Trinidad, Haiti, and others got their best costumes, rhythms, and dance moves to play mas and compete for the coveted crown of ”Band of the year”…the battle came down to Belize and Trinidad…both countries put on an outstanding performance, and in the end, as one of the judges said to me when I ask who won ” you saw it for yourself, who you tink win,,,BELIZE!”…the Belizean-American dance group was sensational in their performance beating the Trini camouflage dancer’s, with the soca moves, which is a great feat, not to many countries can stand up to a trini when it comes to soca, after all soca born in Trinidad! The Windy city carnival is geting more popular and exciting, already looking forward to next year!

  • THE BEACHES of CHICAGO

IMG_0032IMG_0025IMG_0024IMG_0041IMG_0005IMG_0003IMG_0009IMG_0014IMG_0019IMG_0020IMG_0038IMG_0039IMG_0044IMG_0054Along the 28 mile Chicago Lakefront are an extensive network of 33 beaches offering recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, parks, and more for Chicagoans and visitors. Last Saturday I got together with great friends, packed the cooler with Bud Lights, Rum & Coconut water, grab some tasty jerk chicken to spend the day at the 31st beach.  A stones throw away from downtown Chicago, the 31st beach offer’s spectacular views of the Chicago skyline, one the the countries most amazing. The beach has undergone an incredible transformation in the last few years and I must say, the Chicago city planners has done another fine job in revitalizing Chicago. A unique public art display, made of 18 mature defoliated tree’s, where the bark was removed then painted vibrant colors is now next to the playground. The harbor sits adjacent to the beach and is a perfect place to relax and chill while scoping out some yachts.ImageImageImager Their is a harbor classroom that addresses theme’s such as water quality, boating tips, birds, insects, recycling green applications, natural history and more. The Chicago beaches are a splendid way to spend a hot summer day in Chi-town!

Zip-lining over 3000ft high in Costa Rica

La Fortuna waterfalls Over 3000 feet was the highest point at which I zip-lined or death slide as it’s also known as, thru the Costa Rican rain forest…the steady downpour of rain did not help matter’s as it made it much more difficult to apply the brakes to the slippery cable…but what a thrill it was soaring like an Eagle high above the Costa rican jungle, looking down praying the cable would not break!!!…lol

BELIZE CAYE PICNIC (62)Did everybody get something to eat and drink? That was a statement I heard over and over again, that’s the concern for the guest at a Belizean style picnic on this picturesque, gorgeous Sunday on Goff Caye, a small Island, 1.2 acres of spongy sandy land off the shore of Belize City. Goff Caye location sits on the edge of the Barrier reef, the largest is the western hemisphere, its waters to the south and the east being 0.6 to 3 meters deep and crystal clear, sky blue, with the softest sand between your toes to enjoy.
About 500 cruise ship tourist visit the island weekly, but today we had this Island paradise all to ourselves, with plenty of Traditional Belizean cuisine like rice an beans, lemon pie’s, kick down fence (Fry chicken) along with international favorites like lasagna and hot wings. Plenty of distilled spirits are also on hand to lively up the day. The floating bar in the sea ensured everyone’s thirst was quenched as we swam and enjoyed our little gathering.

  • Weekend jaunt in Las Vegas…

LAS VEGAS IMG_0011 IMG_0019 IMG_0020 IMG_0021 IMG_0022 IMG_0023 IMG_0026 IMG_0027 IMG_0082 IMG_0094 IMG_0078A favorite activity for Los Angeline’s is to hit up Vegas for the weekend, I decided to accept an invitation last weekend to sin city and join the thousands who dream that lady luck will smile of them and return home richer than before. I arrived Friday evening and checked into the Excalibur hotel, a Disneyland type castle, a magical piece of Architecture, a setting made for a dream come true. The Lobby and Casino are packed like sardines in a can, which doesn’t surprise me, since the valet parking was fulled and I drove around 20 minutes in self-parking before finding a spot. I get to my room on the 14th floor, it’s an excellent, specious room with flat screen TV, nice furniture and an amazing view of New York New York Hotel on the Vegas strip. I made my way to the casino about 2 a.m work the slots until 5 a.m…hitting a small jackpot here and there just to promptly donate the winnings back to the Hotel. I decide to call it a night and save a few bucks for my Saturday shopping spree! A wonderful alternative to getting rid of some cash in Vegas and not come away empty-handed is to visit the Las Vegas premium outlets malls, where you can get great bargains on some of top quality designers such as DKNY, Polo, Sean John, Coach and many more!…Shopping can work up quite an appetite, but you certainly wont go hungry in Vegas with the endless all you can eat buffets throughout town. I decided to try the Round table buffet at Excalibur and for $17 feasted o grilled fish, fried chicken, steam veggies, pizza, tacos, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, whew…I could go on and on…a trip to the Hotel fitness center would be a good idea to work off the extra calories plus take advantage of the $15 fee charged in the room rate for the use of the gym, which also includes internet use and two complimentary cocktails. The Hotels also gave a Coupon book at check-in, filled with valuable coupons offering discounts on shows, buy one get one free on food and complimentary passes to events and clubs…an especially useful coupon was the free pass for two to club LAX at Excalibur’s sister Hotel the Luxor, saving on the $60 entrance fee for men and $40 for women…the Lounge itself at the Luxor casino has a club like atmosphere with nice comfy sofa’s and chairs, they also accept the complimentary drinks coupon that Excalibur include’s in the room fee. I did find a little better luck at the Luxor hitting a $50 jackpot and keeping $30 for myself before calling a night to get some rest for the Sunday drive back to L.A…what happens in Vegas stay’s in Vegas but when it come’s to great deals and good fun, who wouldn’t want to share that info with your favorite friends!
